Meet RENLY! She's a 3 ½-year-old black lab from PAWS With A Cause. She's a service dog, like a guide dog or mobility assistance dog. A facility dog's job is to help make people feel safe and confident. She's finished her first two years of training and now has to learn the specifics of our office and patients.
She started working with patients in January 2023. We hope our patients will look forward to their appointments and seeing their furry friend.
It takes a lot to raise and train a facility dog. Thousands of hours of volunteers' time... and $6,000 up-front and $2,500 each year after that. Caring for patients with disabilities is our passion. We'd really appreciate any help you can give!
Whew! It’s a hot one early summer this year. RENLY is involved in the PAWS FORE Golf events and having a blast chasing golf balls. If you enjoy golfing, check PawsWithACause.org/events for information on the next annual golf event.
Spring is in full swing! Everything is green and there are flowers everywhere. RENLY loves flowers and sunshine and is looking forward to consistently warmer weather. She’s already done some wading in the river when out and about.
RENLY visited sunny Florida for part of the holiday season. She has enjoyed playing in the snow this January.
We hope everyone has a wonderful day off with some much-deserved rest.
RENLY has been working very hard and even earned her AKC Canine Good Citizen certificate two weeks ago at the First Annual Purposeful Placements (PurPl) Convention in Kalamazoo hosted by PAWS With A Cause.
Congratulations RENLY!
RENLY, Dr. Shana Rush, and Dr. Lisa Voss accompanied the Bauerwood Elementary 5th and 6th graders to a Retirement Community for Trick-or-Treating.
RENLY was inspired by Bambi’s friend, Flower, because RENLY loves flowers, too!
She was very disappointed to learn that she's not allowed to eat hoomin candy, either.
RENLY went to a PAWS With A Cause chili cook-off on Saturday. She took along some of her hoomins, of course. Not only did she help raise $1,000 for PAWS, but her favorite hoomin (Dr. Shana Rush) took first place!
Unfortunately, dogs aren't allowed to eat hoomin food, so poor RENLY was very disappointed.
Dr. Shana Rush donated her prize money back to PAWS.
Happy Labor Day!
RENLY celebrated her day off doing two of her favorite activities at home:
Sunbathing and chewing sticks – which, as you can see from her expression, can be serious business!
RENLY has been with Rush Pediatric Neuropsychology and Grand River Rehabilitation for a full six months now. The year is flying by. She has made a huge difference in many people’s lives. She has learned the routine of our practices and her favorite ‘command’ is “RENLY, Friends!” It is a joy for everyone to see her happily trotting down the hallway with her tail wagging and body wiggling – “Waggling.”
Never mind the doctor – Is RENLY in?
Yes! And she will be with you shortly!
RENLY really loves flowers. And she's so pretty!
RENLY just loves flowers. She likes to look at them, smell them, and occasionally eat them. When she got a bouquet at the office she literally did a happy dance in the hallway!
In May, RENLY was reunited with her foster family. Ron and Marcia Wynsma invited us to their home where RENLY saw her foster siblings and former PAWS With a Cause dogs STRYKER and ARCHIE, and GINGER, their current foster puppy.
All pups had a fun afternoon of running, chasing, playing with toys, and just wearing each other out.
The Wynsma family raised RENLY from the time she was a puppy (just after she was weaned) until she was over one year old. We are forever grateful for the time, energy, patience, and heart/soul they gave to RENLY. Thank you, Ron and Marcia – your efforts have already made a difference in so many of our patient’s lives.
